The studios in Oslo, Norway... and 'The Received Promise' in the loom.
The only tool used, apart from the loom itself, is an ordinary kitchen fork!
Ragnhild also 'hand-dyes' the majority of her yarns.
and this is why this series of tapestries is called " The BERGEN Series"

It was a day of considerable joy and, of course, a deep sense of national pride.
These tapestries were specifically conceptualised for the Bergen Exhibition and
represent a rare opportunity for this artist to devote so much time to 'free works'.
It was a 'unique time' both professionally and personally.

The Rainbow
Scottish Tour 1998
Every year, the Bergen International Festival is held. It is primarily a music festival
and attracts a rich and varied programme, from a widely talented musical world, to
the old and historical City of Bergen in Norway.

Each year normally ONE artist is chosen for this, arguably the most prestigious annual
Festival event in Norway. In 1997, Ragnhild Monsen was chosen to be the sole exhibitor
.... the first time a textile artist had ever been chosen for this honour in the 45 year history
of the festival.

His Royal Highness, King Harald V, graciously accompanied by Her Royal Highness
Queen Sonja, attended the opening of Ragnhild's exhibition. The picture above is of
the artist together with their Royal Highnesses as they tour around the exhibition.

A day that was further enhanced by the performance of "Pictures before an exhibition op.30'
music specially written and composed for the opening by the exciting Norwegian composer,
Fred Jonny Berg whom Ragnhild thanks again here.
